Stock list for West African cichlid tank

Postby Anthony » Mon Feb 10, 2014 8:42 pm

Hi guys,
Here is a video of my planned West African cicdlid tank. It won`t be a bio tope as I want it to be partly planted.
The fish that are in it will be moved on, bar the S Tinanti. Looking for two or three females of these.
All adive much appreciated.

The tank is 6x2x2 with a 4x2x1.5 sump.

Mmm this is my fantasy tank  I'm thinking large african tetras, eg Brynchis, a Distochodus perhaps. Synodontis, obvs. Lamprologus congoensis if you want another cichlid and possibly a group of elephant-noses.
Too much?

I had a disaster in the tank last year when I added some Cardinals I bought from a guy who had just imported them.
I lost 70+ Cardinals, 7 F1 and 1 wild caught Angels and I also lost 12 adult Congo Tetras all in the space of a week.
I have one surviving female Congo tetra and I plan to add at least another 14.

Its funny you mentioned the Elephant fish. I am also on the lookout for these. I was watching a program last night on
Nat geo wild about the Congo river and it showed some stunning Elephant nose fish.
Butterfly fish might tempt me but I think they are too hard to feed. I don`t intend buying black crickets for the house.
All thought, they are silent. Unlike the brown ones I had to buy when I had Geckos.

All the fish will be West African bar a group of Starlight Bristle nose fish that I am getting from a local lad for a bag of
black worm flake. Can`t let that slip.

Nigriventis are nice little fish. I used to keep 26 different species of Synodontis many moons ago. They seem to have gone
out of fashion along with the Elephant nose and butterfly fish. Shame really.

Its very hard to source West African cichlids over here but they are starting to make an appearance. I think a trip over to the
UK in in order around April.

Tore the tank apart today to catch all the fish. I removed the two I was looking for and ID for and
bought 5 Philander blue lips. I also ordered some Nanochromis transvestitus.
